My Story

As I'm reaching 65, I decided to challenge myself culminating in the London 2 Brighton Ultra Challenge. Leading up to this, I will be doing the 20km Winter Walk on the 13th January, the 40km Easter Walk on the 20th April and finally the 100km continuous London 2 Brighton Walk on the 25th May.

My granddaughter Miya was born deaf and in January 2017, at age 10, joined Mary Hare Primary School. Having seen how this school supports deaf children I decided to raise money for the Mary Hare Primary school appeal.

Mary Hare are a school for deaf children in Newbury, Berkshire. They take children from Year 1 to Year 13 (aged 5-19) across both Primary and Secondary sites. They are the largest school for the deaf in the UK taking both day and boarding pupils. They use the oral communication method so no BSL in classes - their pupils thrive on learning to use their voice and the use of English is really important!

English is the language of the national curriculum and of the outside world. They want their students to have good language skills, helping them to achieve better grades. They believe this will give them more choice as they move into their futures.

Mary Hare are building a new Primary School to give deaf children the modern learning environment they deserve.
